Kindness Is One Of The Most Important Qualities

“Throw kindess around like confetti.”~ the quote that graces our Pinterest feeds on the daily. Maybe a little annoying to see it day upon day, but nonetheless, an important reminder. I used to think being described as a “kind” person was boring. That was like the word “nice” – boring and unoriginal in terms of descriptors. Nobody wanted to be the The Nice One of the group. The ultimate goal in life would be to earn the title of The Funny One or The Cool One. Yet somehow, I was always The Quiet One, The Nice One. And to me that was disappointing to hear.

But ask me now, and I’d say that being kind is one of the most important qualities a person can have. And a trait I’d happily accept as one of mine. Negativity needs no assistance in spreading. It’s literally everywhere you turn: on social media (*ahem twitter ahem*), in the news, and IRL. And so we really should be throwing the kindness confetti at every chance we get.

I know how easy it can be to get drawn into taking sides in a particularly prone-to-falling-out friendship group. And how quickly gossip and backstabbing can materialise from dramas at the office. But really, I guess the internet is the biggest culprit in lacking kindness. As children of the internet, social media is our stomping ground. But unfortunately it is taken advantage of and negativity spreads ten times faster and to millions more people than in real life. Haters, I guess you could call them. Or trolls. Whatever they like to call themselves, we could definitely do without them. Let’s be girls supporting girls, or guys supporting girls, girls supporting guys, or all of the above. Be kind, and spread your kindness too.
