Step 1: Paint your nails with a base coat. I’m using Forever Strong Pro by Maybelline. This is a great base coat because it contains calcium, silica and iron to not only protect your nails from the other polishes, but also to nourish them and keep them hydrated.

Step 2: Paint your nails with your chosen base colour. This design works best with a pastel or pale colour. Here, I used Blue Moon by Barry M. This was a new purchase for me, and I really, really love it! I was looking for a pastel and already have Barry M’s “Mint Green”, so I thought I’d give this a try. At only £2.99, it’s a bargain too!

Step 3: Once your base colour is dry and you’re happy with it, draw on your polka dots in a black nail art pen. My favourite pen for this is the Black Nail Art Pen by Barry M. This nail art pen is really handy and easy to use. It has a proper nib and is so easy to apply that it beats any other nail art pen/brush I’ve come across yet!

Step 4: Once fully dry, apply a top coat to dry your polish and help the design to last longer. I used the Fast Dry Top Coat by Seche Vite. I have to say, last year I received two of these top coat polishes for Christmas and they were one of my best presents! I’d grown bored of spending my day perfecting my nail art, only for it never to dry and stay forever-tacky. This polish has allowed me to get back into nail art, which I’m so glad about. The only downside to this product, is that it’s fairly expensive at £9.95 a bottle!
For the clean up at the very end, I used the Barry M Nail Paint Corrector Pen, which comes with two handy re-fills and is acetone free!
